Back Road Worship

My alarm went off at 6:30 this morning. At first, I thought There must be some mistake here.

You see, I don’t get up that early anymore. One of the perks of my path is that seven in the morning (or after) is usually the norm for the coffee to start pouring in my house – but not this morning. This morning, I needed to be in Wichita to pick up Danielle after she dropped her car off to get some work done. So, I got up, got ready and did precisely that.
After dropping her off at work I was heading back into Sedgwick when I noticed the morning sun’s glow off the fields. So, I slowed down, turned onto a dirt road, rolled down my window, and just started praying.
It was a simple prayer time – I started by thanking Him for this beautiful morning, the bright sunrise, my old truck and good old country music pouring out of my speakers. I was in the zone. I was half talking, half singing with the Lord. For me, it was a perfect morning.
It’s funny how that one little act of worship (make no mistake – that is absolutely worship) focused my entire state of mind and prepared me for the day.
After six or seven miles of back
road worship, I was put in mind of Psalm 46; “…Be still and know that I am God…” That’s what was happening! I became still. I had put myself in the position to let Jesus give me a supernatural peace. I had opened the door for the Holy Spirit to speak.
When was the last time you took action and put yourself in the position to hear from God? Do you remember when you last silenced the world and focused solely on speaking with the Almighty? When was the last time you spoke to God in pure awe and love; just thanking Him for life and love and blessings? Have you taken time recently to be still and converse with Your maker? If the answer to those is “more than a day” you might want to rework your schedule. I recommend a slow ride just northeast of town to clear your head. It works wonders.
